4 Then the foreign rabble who were traveling with the Israelites began to crave the good things of Egypt. And the people of Israel also began to complain. “Oh, for some meat!” they exclaimed. 5 “We remember the fish we used to eat for free in Egypt. And we had all the cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions, and garlic we wanted. 6 But now our appetites are gone. All we ever see is this manna!”
18 “And say to the people, ‘Purify yourselves, for tomorrow you will have meat to eat. You were whining, and the Lord heard you when you cried, “Oh, for some meat! We were better off in Egypt!” Now the Lord will give you meat, and you will have to eat it. 19 And it won’t be for just a day or two, or for five or ten or even twenty. 20 You will eat it for a whole month until you gag and are sick of it. For you have rejected the Lord, who is here among you, and you have whined to him, saying, “Why did we ever leave Egypt?”’
31 Now the Lord sent a wind that brought quail from the sea and let them fall all around the camp. For miles in every direction there were quail flying about three feet above the ground.[f] 32 So the people went out and caught quail all that day and throughout the night and all the next day, too. No one gathered less than fifty bushels[g]! They spread the quail all around the camp to dry. 33 But while they were gorging themselves on the meat—while it was still in their mouths—the anger of the Lord blazed against the people, and he struck them with a severe plague. 34 So that place was called Kibroth-hattaavah (which means “graves of gluttony”) because there they buried the people who had craved meat from Egypt.
The Israelites whined about the free meat they got back in Egypt (11:5). After their excessive whining, God told the Moses to tell the Israelites to purify themselves because He was going to give them meat (11:18). During the next day, many Israelites caught over 50+ Quails and while "gorging" on the meat, God cursed them with an epidemic (11:33).
God told them to purify themselves yet the Lord struck them with a curse. Why did God do that? What I saw first was that the Israelites never even thanked God for providing their needs after excessive whining. They whined for the food back in Egypt, where God was gracefully and mercifully willing to save them from Egypt. Back in Egypt, the Israelites were oppressed and slaves (Exodus 1). The Israelites hearts never changed even when the Lord saved them.
The Lord does miracles and saved us from everyday. My life is in God's hands and the fact that I'm alive today and tonight, God's still saving me. Personally, I think if I had not met God then I would have died a long time ago. After school had ended at Roosevelt High School, I was standing at the end of a pedestrian crosswalk. The lane closest to me had a long line of stopped cars, waiting for me to cross. While crossing, when I was about to take another step into the second lane, a car going over 30 mph sped right infront of me. It was so close that I could feel the breeze and it covered my entire line of sight. If I had been another inch closer then I would have been hit. During this time, I was listening to my iPod with some worship music by Michael W. Smith and just trying to tune in with God. I count everyday as a day rescued by my Saviour Jesus Christ.
Dear God,
Thank you for saving me. You continuesly save me everyday in every moment. Just that testimony alone shows your divine hand over my life. You have a plan for me and want to do some definite things in my life. God I pray that you will give me a servant's heart, one's that have nailed my ear to your door because it shows that I belong to you forever. Please forgive me God for those time where I whined and longed for the place where you've rescued me from. God those times of my past where life just seemed good and everything. When my world came down, you sent people to come rescue me. First of all, you sent Laurel and I thank you God for sending Laurel to bring me to church. God thank you for your anointed servant, Pastor Terry who spoke your Word and those word pierced my heart. You knew that I would come running to you after that. Your Word didn't return void, instead it came back with all of me. Thank you Jesus, I pray that you will continue to be there for me. The Bible shows that you are a friend and a comforter. I need to be comforted everyday God and I need a friend like you, one that sticks closer than a brother. Jesus, I know you are the Savior of my life and I will give you all of my worship.
In Jesus Name Amen.
